Winter can be a little gloomy at times. It is dark so early, it is cold out and there really isn’t a lot you want to do because that would require leaving your home and going out into the cold. But there is a way to cheer up your living environment so that the place you spend the most time in is warm, welcoming and happy.
If you want to make your home a cozy winter wonderland, here are 7 great ideas you can try out.
Theme for your decorations.
You don’t want your decorating to look like it was just thrown up with no thought around the end result. That’s where a theme can come in handy.
Set a stage for your decorations. Put down some type of base as a backdrop. One idea would be to set up an ice skating theme with the base being a mirror with a little cotton around the edges to act as snow. Use a little creativity with the items you already have in your household and you can repurpose them for the season to enhance your decorating.
Don’t forget the ceiling
Think out of the box and decorate from the top down.
Do you have greenery or decorations that would look good on the ceiling or over the top of archways? Remember that all areas can be decorated so don’t just focus on what you see directly in front of you.
Bring in Nature
Have you considered bringing the outside in when you decorate?
Bring in natural items, such as evergreen clippings and branches from your yard.
If you’re not in the mood to deal with the expense, maintenance, and general mess that come along with having a real Christmas tree, you can place some branches from real trees strategically into your artificial tree to give you the element of the live tree without all the mess and upkeep.
Decorate your banister
If you have more than one level to your home, decorating your banister is a great way to add some cheer to a central area. Handing some garland and white lights are a great way to brighten things up and warm up the area.
Lights can go anywhere
In the dark months of winter, it is so joyful when you add twinkly lights around your home. Think outside the box and add lights around your windows, around your headboard in your bedroom, in archways or dark hallways. You can even put some in a clear vase which will add a pop of light that can go on your mantal or bookshelf to brighten it up.
Turn Mason jars into decorations
Using Mason jars, you can create a winter scene. Put artificial snow in the bottom of a Mason jar and add twinkly lights to make it sparkle. You can also add in some glass ornaments to make it even more festive if you want to.
You could also create jars filled with pine cones, cinnamon sticks and greenery and add in some LED lights to light it up.
Decorate your dining table
Here is an idea for decorating your table that is easy and elegant. Start with a bright white table runner in the middle of your table and add an assortment of white and green trees in varying sizes (not too large) and some battery operated candles and string lights that will go the length of the area that is decorated. This will be a conversation piece and make your table feel festive all winter long.
I hope these ideas have inspired you to make your home into a relaxing, warm and cheery place for the holidays as well as all winter long. When it is dark and cold outside you will have a wonderful place to spend time with your family that makes you smile.
