Keep Your Backyard Pool Safe This Summer, pool safety tips

When the heat of summer sets in, there’s nothing better than taking a refreshing dip in the pool. While playing in the pool is fun for the whole family, it’s important to remember it also holds certain risks. If you want to protect your loved ones this summer, make sure you keep these pool safety tips in mind.

Adult Supervision

Young, inexperienced swimmers should only enter water if they have been equipped with proper flotation and safety gear.

Older, stronger swimmers can be monitored from poolside.  Just stay vigilant and be ready to dive in if an emergency situation arises.

Protective Fencing

If you have a pool in your backyard, it’s important to invest in a protective barrier.

Pool safety experts recommend installing a 4 to 5-foot security fence around the entire perimeter of your pool.

Additionally, your fence should also feature a self-closing, self-latching gate. You want to prevent children and pets from entering the pool area without your permission.

Water Chemistry

Finally, it’s important to make sure that your pool’s water chemistry is balanced before allowing anyone to swim. Take measurements beforehand. If you need to add more chemicals, wait two hours before taking another reading to allow the water to settle.

If the water appears cloudy or discolored, do not let anyone enter the pool. This could be an indication of a potentially dangerous chemical imbalance. If you are having trouble with your pool’s chemistry, contact a local pool expert for assistance.
